Position MACHINISTS
Description:

 

SUMMARY:
Operates conventional, Special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to manufacture metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.  Other
duties may be assigned

  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out - of - tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

WRITTEN & ORAL COMMUNICATION:

Must demonstrate ability to read operator instructions, inspection cards, process routine sequence, yellow tag instructions, process flow map, quality history log & change log.  Communicate comprehension verification of the above as well as initial safety training.  Possess the ability to complete job reporting paperwork with reasonable training; i.e. time tickets, quality history log, change log, S.P.C.,  yellow tags.  Relate job specific details; i.e. problems/ concerns including operation specific requirements to Forman, inspectors or next shift operator.  Communicate fundamentals of SPC - bell curve, variation & control limits.  Relate the A.G.C. quality policy and it's
meaning.
 
MATHEMATICS:
Arithmetic, i.e. add, subtract, multiply and divide to the level necessary for SPC charts, proper use of gages and C.N.C. offset adjustments for a specific result.

 DECISION MAKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING:
Using the above information be able to correctly identify acceptable and unacceptable product.  Demonstrate the good reasoning to seek help when required.  Make proper decisions to the level of training received; i.e. Policies, Procedures and Safety.  Have good maintenance and housekeeping habits.

 COMPREHENSION OF ENGINEERING DRAWINGS AND SKETCHES:
Understand and relate job specific requirements from basic sketches and two-dimensional drawings.  Recognize and understand basic geometric tolerance and dimensioning; i.e. straightness, flatness, position, concentricity, parallelism, perpendicularity, runout, datum feature and diameter.

 MEASUREMENTS:
Be able to use and "Read" standard tools and gages; i.e. micrometers, calipers, dial bore and bar indicators, length/height gage.  Understand runout and dial indicator plus and minus conditions.  Know the difference between variables and attributes.

METALWORKING - THEORY:
 Must be able to change "standard" cutting tools; i.e. inserts, drills, hobs, shaper cutters, etc. and re-set machine to proper part size without creating scrap or re-work.  Understand part processing sequencing and process operation control features.  Understand machine axes relative to their normal work area.

The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Avon Gear Company Employee Appreciation Day was celebrated on July 13, 2012.  Management grilled luncheons for all shifts.  Drawings were held with gifts donated by AGC suppliers given as prizes to the lucky winners.  Avon Gear Company appreciates all AGC Associates!  Thank you for all your hard work!
 
 
AVON GEAR COMPANY - OPEN HOUSE
Avon Gear Company enjoyed the open house at their new building in Shelby Twp. on Saturday, July 12, 2008.  Employees, Customers & Suppliers attended for an afternoon of both American & Japanese food & entertainment.  The early rain cleared up and didn't dampen the day's fun.  Thank you to all who attended and helped to make this such a fun day.
